More than 140 retirees from Falmouth Docks were waited on by directors and senior managers of A&P Falmouth, who served a two course meal, washed down with some “Christmas spirit” at Falmouth Community School.
Peter Child, Managing Director of A&P Falmouth, said: “The event has become a Christmas tradition over the past 30 years or so, and one which we all really look forward to. It gives us a chance to show our appreciation to our retired colleagues.
“There was a lot of reminiscing about old times and much laughter. It marks the start of the festive season for most of us – Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without it.”
A&P directors including Peter Child, Managing Director; Mike Reynolds, Port Operations Director; Paul Hebson, Operations Director; David Daniel, Commercial Director; Jez Littlejohn, Sales and Marketing Director and Paul Kneebone, HR Manager, served the meal and tended the bar.
The oldest retiree at the party was Raymond Keeley, who was celebrating his 93rd birthday the same day. He was presented with a bottle of whiskey and a chorus of Happy Birthday was sung. Maureen Hayward, a former office manager, was the only female party-goer.
Mr Child gave his annual report, reflecting on another successful year at A&P, and giving an update on the dredging project. He also proposed a toast to absent friends, which was particularly poignant given the recent death of colleague Tony Hill.
The pensioners' return of thanks was given by Frank Eva, and the kitchen staff at Falmouth School were thanked for the excellent meal and presented with bottles of wine.
Thanks also went out to Yolanda Tonkin and Ross Pellow for helping to organise the evening, and A&P suppliers for the generous raffle prizes.
