The company has installed its unique Dockmaster pontoons at three locations, in the UK at Grimsby Fish Docks, for Svitzer Marine tug port on Tyneside, and at the London Array project at the mouth of the Thames Estuary, 12km from the Kent and Essex coast. A total of 28 concrete pontoon units have been built for the projects and transported from the company’s fabrication site in Ponsharden.
Six of the concrete pontoon units were installed at Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprise, and are being used by Centrica as a docking station to enable the safe transfer of the marine personnel from port to their offshore wind farm. This was part of an ongoing agreement between the companies with MDL installing pontoons at the docks in 2009.
MDL has this month completed the installation of a 100 metre by 5 metre concrete pontoon for Svitzer Marine Ltd at the companies towage dock on Tyneside. Svitzer Marine is using the floating wharf to enable the safe transfer of crews to their vessels on the Tyne, a fleet of tugs. Access had become difficult for the personnel after the existing wharf had been damaged in a fire. The new wharf allows ease of access from port to vessel.
At the world-renowned London Array project, that will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm, MDL has installed two floating piers of 6 m wide. The concrete pontoons were supplied complete with drive on walkways, an electric vehicle and trailer, an extensive fuel system, pump out facilities, electrical services and a pontoon-mounted crane.
Drystan Jones, Managing Director, Marine Designs Ltd commented: "These are three major contracts for MDL working with some of the biggest marine company’s and projects. The last few months have been extremely busy for Marine Designs with all of the pontoons manufactured in Falmouth and then transported to the individual project sites. These go a long way towards growth of the business helping us to create jobs in the future as well as help us generate sales internationally."
Marine Designs Ltd is part of the A&P Group and is based close to the company’s site in Falmouth at Ponsharden. DockMaster is a patented product exclusive to Marine Designs and is built using pre-cast concrete sections providing the ability for on site assembly.
