ADG wins more than £1.5 million of education work

26/11/2009

The Plymouth-based Architects Design Group (ADG) is celebrating the latest success for its education team having won a variety of contracts valued at more than £1.5 million.

ADG has been selected, by Plymouth City Council, as part of a team lead by property and construction consultants Currie & Brown, to design six new classrooms for Boringdon Primary School in Plympton having carried out an earlier masterplanning exercise for the school.

The £1.1 million project will include the removal of temporary classrooms and landscaping works.

The ADG education team has also designed two new classrooms for Goosewell Primary School in Plymstock, having been appointed by Plymouth City Council. This £400,000 project is on site and is expected to be completed before Christmas.

And ADG is also working on a scheme at the independent Kings School and Nursery in Hartley in Plymouth on behalf of private education provider Cognita.

ADG director Marc Nash, who heads ADG’s education team, said: “We’re delighted to have secured a range of work in the state and independent school sectors, and we’re seeing more enquiries from individual schools wanting to make the most of their capital budgets by asking us to explore options as the first step towards attracting further funding.”

Last month ADG helped celebrate the start of work on the £8.6 million High View primary school in Efford in Plymouth. ADG has designed every aspect of the school – including the interiors – on behalf of the contractor Interserve Project Services Limited, which is delivering the school on behalf of Plymouth City Council.

It will have a sports hall, a performing arts hall, a studio with changing rooms for community use, meeting rooms and a media suite. The school will also have a nursery, a Children’s Centre and plenty of space for sports and arts for the community.

High View will replace two existing primary schools and cater for 315 pupils.  It is due to open in September 2010.

ADG project architect Jez Lavers said: “We have worked for many months in close collaboration with the school, community and City Council team to create a building that will bring new life to the centre of Efford and we are excited to see it taking shape on site.”
