Architects bowl over planners at Mount Wise

19/07/2011

The ‘Village by the Sea’ cricket pitch at Mount Wise has witnessed the inaugural architects versus planners cricket match.

The challenge of the cricket match was laid down in a conversation between Marc Nash, Director at the Architects Design Group (ADG), and Paul Barnard, Assistant Director Planning Services at Plymouth City Council.

The architects’ side was represented by eight different city architect practices whilst the planners’ side included building control officers and planning and policy makers.

The 20/20 match was played in a good spirit and was keenly contested with the planners winning the toss and putting the architects into bat.

The architects managed to amass a highly commended score of 152 which included six sixes. The run chase that followed was too great a challenge for the inexperienced planners who nevertheless managed to reach 116 in their 20 overs.

ADG Director, Marc Nash commented: ‘It was a brilliant evening which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and it was nice to play on the pitch which is a centrepiece of the new Mount Wise development.

“We were pleased to win the opportunity to donate £250 we raised to the Drake Foundation Charity. Everyone contributed generously to the event and there is a plan to repeat it next year when the planners will hope to turn the tables.”

Earlier this year ADG was appointed to design the second phase of the prestigious £120 million Mount Wise development, having already worked on phase one.

Billed as ‘the village by the sea’ Mount Wise will include 469 Georgian-inspired homes, hotel, cricket pitch with pavilion, village store, bistro and office space in a waterside location overlooking Plymouth Sound. The first show home opened in May.
