Air Southwest launches Newquay to Cardiff service

04/01/2011

Air Southwest launches its new daily service from Newquay to Cardiff today (Tuesday, January 4), putting Wales just half an hour from Cornwall.

The move builds on Air Southwest’s position as the biggest operator out of Newquay Cornwall Airport, with nine destinations now available year-round.

Air Southwest’s commercial director Mike Coombes said: “With a flight time of just half an hour, our new daily service to Cardiff puts one of the UK’s most vibrant cities within easy reach.

“Cardiff has a fantastic selection of shops and great venues for music and sports – in fact we’ve already taken bookings from people going to the Wales vs England Six Nations rugby match on February 4, and for the Take That concerts in June, both at the Millennium Stadium.

“We also expect to draw new visitors to Cornwall. Our flights save more than three hours off the same journey by road and we’ve teamed up with our car hire partner Avis to offer a range of flydrive packages to help people explore the Duchy.”

The new flights have been welcomed by Malcolm Bell, Head of VisitCornwall, who said: “Air travel has helped revolutionise the short break market in recent years and I’ve no doubt that this new Cardiff service will attract more visitors to Cornwall, especially given the growth in ‘staycation’ holidays at home in the UK.”

Air Southwest flights from Newquay to Cardiff can be booked at www.airsouthwest.com. No-nonsense fares include all taxes and charges and a generous baggage allowance.
