Classic partnership with Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

14/10/2011
Specialist self-catering holiday lettings company Classic Cottages is delighted to announce its support for the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The company, which markets around 700 holiday cottages in the South West, will be working with the organisation on specific projects across the county including encouraging the use of sustainable transport for both locals and visitors to the area.

As well as featuring a selection of the partnership’s publications and brochures in the company’s holiday cottages in Dorset, the team at Classic will also get involved in volunteering work for the Dorset AONB being planned for later this month.

Anna Hamlyn, property manager for Classic Cottages in Dorset, said: “What started as a link to provide Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty brochures in our cottages is now growing into a much stronger partnership and we are absolutely delighted to be supporting the organisation’s valuable work. As part of the South West’s tourism industry, we are hoping to work much more closely strengthening our links for the overall benefit of our guests and owners in Dorset.

“We want to encourage all our guests to share in the natural beauty that we’re lucky enough to enjoy in this part of the world, but be responsible and have as little impact as possible when visiting us on holiday, so that we can preserve the local environment for future generations.”

The Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of a family of protected landscapes in the UK, working to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of almost half of Dorset’s countryside.

Classic Cottages recently took part in the Dorset AONB’s annual forum. Anna added: “Working more closely with the AONB will really help to inform the wide-ranging initiatives that Classic is involved in when it comes to the environment. We’re gaining knowledge and skills all the time and it is really great to be able to learn from some of the most experienced and respected conservation experts.”

Tom Munro, Team Manager for the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty said: “We’re keen to promote the Dorset AONB so that local people and visitors begin to understand and value this nationally important landscape. It’s great that Classic Cottages want to get these messages out to their guests and owners too and we’re really looking forward to working with the Classic team to promote this fantastic landscape.”

Classic Cottages has a long-standing commitment and dedication to preserving the natural habitat and environment across the South West and has an established ‘Green Team’ of staff who work on a wide range of initiatives. This includes getting involved in local conservation projects three or four times a year, such as river clearing, beach cleaning and conserving coastal footpaths.

The company has worked with the charity Cool Earth since 2008 and sponsors acres of rainforest in Ecuador and Peru every year. It also dedicates and preserves an acre of woodland each year with the Woodland Trust.

Most recently it launched a new ‘Classic Green’ scheme to green grade its most environmentally-friendly properties, identifying owners who have taken additional steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

Classic Cottages has been recognised for its environmental awareness by achieving Gold status under the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) and the company, has produced a ‘Green Guide’ (www.classicgreen.co.uk) to help property owners become more environmentally conscious.

Classic Cottages has high quality self-catering holiday cottages in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. More information can be found at www.classic.co.uk
