More than £100 was collected through the sale of homemade soups, bread, cakes, cupcakes and biscuits at the event, organised by Katie Chown from the company’s online communications marketing team.
On the Valentine’s menu were spicy parsnip, garlic and Thai green chicken noodle soups, made by property department administrator Beckii Abraham, property manager Jacqui Gulliford and Katie Chown, with homemade bread from Philippa Penney, property manager and Jakie Jewell, marketing manager.
Katie was also responsible for the selection of sweet treats, which included sandwiched heart biscuits, pink heart cupcakes, cinnamon heart biscuits, large dried fruit cookies, ‘I love you’ slab biscuits, and a large, two tier chocolate amaretto cake, which was raffled off and won by Shane Cornish from the IT department, who took it home for his wife.
In total, £115 was raised on the day and this was matched by Classic Cottages, making a grand total of £230.
Katie Chown, said: “The soup kitchen is becoming a bit of a tradition at Classic Cottages – last year we held two events raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care and Joshua Jones, a local boy with terminal cancer, and I also organised a cupcake event for Valentine’s Day last year, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
“This year I thought it would be a good idea to combine the soup kitchen and cupcake day, so there would be something for everyone. It went really well, and it was great that the whole team got behind the event again in support of Cancer Research UK.”
