Get set for the Switchover Roadshow

15/10/2010

With just one month to go until the switch to digital television on 17 November, thousands of viewers can get extra advice as the switchover roadshow begins a tour of the Channel IsIands.

The roadshow team will travel to Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney next week, offering practical advice on how to get set for digital and details of the Switchover Help Scheme for older and disabled people. The advice point will be open to the public for a total of five days before returning again to Jersey and Guernsey at switchover.

The roadshow kicks off in Guernsey on 19 October 2010. Bill Taylor, Digital UK’s Regional Manager in the Channel Islands, will open the first event. (Photocall: details over.)

Visitors to the roadshow will have the opportunity to:

    Find out when switchover is happening and the options for going digital.
    Learn how eligible people can get a TV converted by the Switchover Help Scheme.
    See technical demonstrations (e.g. how to retune a box) and put questions to Digital UK’s specially trained advisors

Bill Taylor, Digital UK’s Regional Manager in the Channel Islands said:

“In just over a month’s time analogue TV signals will be switched off forever, allowing 50,000 homes across the Channel Islands to recieve Freeview digital services via an aerial for the first time. The switchover roadshow provides a great opportunity for people to meet the teams from Digital UK and the Help Scheme, get face-to-face advice on how to prepare and find out about the assistance available.”

Anyone unable to attend the roadshow can ring the Digital UK advice line on 08456 505050 or visit digitaluk.co.uk. The Switchover Help Scheme is on 0800 40 85 900, and at helpscheme.co.uk.
