First garden book sale at Duchy of Cornwall Nursery

30/01/2012

Gardening experts will be on hand to answer questions and give advice as the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery holds its first giant garden book sale and plant surgery on Thursday February 16th.

A huge range of garden books will be on sale at reduced prices, ranging from £1 to £10. Tickets for the event cost £10, with £1 from each ticket sold going to the Precious Lives Appeal. The price includes cheese and wine, top advice from plant experts and free entry into a raffle to win £50 of vouchers to spend on plants at the Nursery.

Nursery horticulturalists will be on hand to answer any gardening queries, give advice and help diagnose any problems before the growing season gets underway. Guests are free to bring along any poorly plants.

The special evening will run from 6pm to 8pm and tickets are available from the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery. Tickets must be purchased beforehand at the shop or by calling 01208 872668.

Nursery manager Angie Coombs said: “This is a fantastic way for customers to relax with a glass of wine while browsing through our huge collection of books – and of course to grab a bargain.

“It’s also a great opportunity to visit the Nursery out-of-hours and spend time talking to our garden experts in aninformal atmosphere. I can’t think of a nicer way to spend a February evening.

“We’re delighted to be doing our bit to support a worthwhile local charity and look forward to welcoming customers old and new. It’s a very exciting time for us. We have lots of plans for 2012.”

Situated on the outskirts of Lostwithiel, the Nursery’s new shop and café were opened last July by HRH Prince and Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and have quickly become a popular attraction within the Duchy estate.

Earlier this month the Nursery’s impressive café was crowned best café in the South West, voted for by readers of Food Magazine. Food in the café is prepared by chef Richard Du Pille and sourced from local producers including Trewithen Dairy, Plough to Plate, Kittows and Cornish Farm.

The local and recycled artefacts that create the shop and café’s ‘Potting Shed’ theme define the style and atmosphere of the building and have been created by respected interior designer Annabel Elliot.

Embracing sustainable gardening methods, the Nursery stocks specialist plant species, including conifers, bamboos, fuchsias and camellias and is happy to gently introduce beginners into the contemporary world of horticulture using traditional methods.
