Millbay’s lead developer English Cities Fund (ECf) has submitted proposals to Plymouth City Council planners for a mix of high quality houses, apartments and ground floor commercial space on land to the south of Millbay Road, opposite Cargo.
The scheme aims to provide a new high quality development at what is a key gateway site to the Millbay regeneration area – as well as sending out a strong message of confidence for the long term transformation of the former docks.
Duncan Cumberland, Development Director for Muse Developments, which is one of the partners in ECf, said: “ECf has a long term commitment to the regeneration of Millbay and we understand the importance of the scheme both for the local community and for the wider Plymouth economy.
“Our focus has been to maintain momentum in Millbay’s regeneration and we are delighted to be able to continue this strategy by bringing forward a planning application for the next phase of development.”
The latest plans feature a mix of 48 houses and apartments with associated parking and ground floor commercial space.
They follow a busy year in 2010 which saw the completion and sale of all the homes in Millbay’s first development Cargo and also saw Cargo judged as one of top ten best new developments in the UK through receiving a Building for Life Award.
Major infrastructure works were carried in the summer by ECf to pave the way for future phases of development at Millbay. The work has restored Millbay’s historic Inner Basin, which will enable it to be brought back into use as a working marina and will create a focal point for future phases of development on the surrounding docksides.
