New Chairman of the Board, Malcolm Moyle, has been involved in Heartlands since its original conception, he said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Heartlands. This development has been close to my heart for many years and I have contributed to the 15 years of work it has taken to get the project on site and under construction.
“I am incredibly excited to continue my contribution to Heartlands as Chairman of the Board to ensure Heartlands is a catalyst for regeneration in the local community for years to come.”
Cllr Carolyn Rule, Cornwall Council and Heartlands Trustee said: “This development has the potential to bring about real transformation for the local community both socially and economically. I am delighted to join an outstanding group of people to form the board of Trustees and take on this challenge.
Scott James, Programme Director for Heartlands said: “Heartlands is all about creating a new community hub for local people and a landmark destination for visitors that will be self-sustaining by investing income from rentals, trade and special events back into the project. In line with our ethos, Heartlands will be run by a trust in perpetuity.
“The Board we have appointed to run the Trust consists of some extraordinary individuals who have a wealth of experience and knowledge to bring to the project and we look forward to working with them all.”
Heartlands is a £35 million social enterprise that is transforming a derelict 19-acre former mining site into a self-sustaining community asset that will be run by a Trust in perpetuity. Heartlands will include a new visitor destination and gateway to the World Heritage Site around the former Robinson’s Shaft mine complex, plus performance and event areas, quality business space, accommodation, community facilities, play and relaxation spaces all set in a new park and garden landscape, shaped by Cornish culture and heritage.
Heartlands became a reality when the Big Lottery Fund granted £22.3 million towards the £35 million Cornwall Council led project. Additional investment has been provided by Cornwall Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which has provided funding and more than £6m worth of land towards the development.
