The prestigious Mining and Quarrying Sector Award was achieved by the Company in recognition of its improving UK-wide Health and Safety performance.
The Award was presented to representatives from the Imerys Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Section and operations at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel in an awards event which ran alongside Health & Safety Expo 2009, Europe's leading annual event for the safety and health industry.
Imerys now has its name on the RoSPA Sector Award for four consecutive years. Stewart Vale, Imerys Minerals Limited EHS Manager is pleased that Imerys has again received recognition for its Health & Safety performance: “Good Safety is a Team effort, so obtaining this Award is excellent recognition for the efforts of everyone in the business in improving our Health and Safety performance. Being more proactive in our work with the HSE and Safety Representatives as well as challenging unsafe behaviours in the workplace is starting to make a clear difference. The economic climate will present more challenges for us, but I am convinced that we can continue to make our workplaces safer".
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: “Imerys Minerals Limited has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Entering the RoSPA Awards reinforces the message that good health and safety is good for business and clearly demonstrates an organisation's dedication to improving performance in this crucial area".
The Award, as well as recognising the overall reduction in accidents is also based upon the Company's occupational health and safety management systems and culture, risk management & control, consultation and both company wide and site-based improvement initiatives.
