The inaugural Pirate Day is being held on Tuesday, August 17 and includes lots of themed children’s activities and competitions.
Youngsters will have the chance to meet and greet Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swan lookalikes from Pirates of the Caribbean, plus entertainers from Swamp Circus.
The highlight of the day will be a spectacular performance by the Breitling Wingwalkers, who will take to the skies over the famous landmark during the afternoon.
From 7pm there will be entertainment and live music, plus don’t miss out on the fireworks at dusk.
The event is being held to raise much-needed funds for St Julia’s Hospice’s “Build the Vision” Appeal to raise £1.5 million. The hospice, in Hayle, wants to increase the number of beds from eight to 12 and provide dedicated outpatient facilities, which will be more accessible, but separated from the wards.
This will enable the hospice to provide more care for the people of West Cornwall and improve the dignity and privacy of patients and their families. The Department of Health has awarded a grant of £496,000 towards the £1.5 million needed for the project and since a public appeal was launched in April an extra £80,000 has been raised.
"We are really grateful to the team at Land’s End for choosing to support the appeal - this is a fantastic way for locals and visitors alike to join in the fun, enjoy the spectacular firework display and at the same time help fund additional facilities which will ensure more people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones are able to be given this vital care and support," said Sarah Snell, from Cornwall Hospice Care.
David Bryans, Land’s End’s General Manager, said: “We’re all looking forward to Pirate Day and hope as many people as possible will join us to help raise money for St Julia’s Hospice – a cause close to all our hearts.”
