Daniel McGee, 14, from Penzance, has won a Nintendo Wii, free tickets to the new cinema, and the opportunity to arrive by limo, VIP-style, to cut the ribbon and officially open the new attraction to the public.
Twenty runners-up have also been awarded free family tickets to Land’s End during the Easter break, and the opportunity to see a sneak-preview of the film on the opening day.
The grand opening ceremony will take place on Monday, March 29, with members of the public being able to live the 4D experience for the first time from 12 noon. A piper and drum band will accompany the limo as it approaches the entrance to the Land’s End visitor centre, and a Captain Jack Sparrow look-alike will assist Daniel in cutting the ribbon.
Daniel said: “I am so surprised and excited to have won. I am really interested in seeing the new 4D cinema, and it’s great that all my family and friends can come. Being a VIP for the day, and turning up in a limo, is also pretty cool!”
In the meantime, staff at Land’s End have been in full swing as they work around the clock to build the state-of-the-art cinema in time for the opening. Attractions Manager Keith Barnes said: “Our staff are working very closely with the cinema providers, Simworx, to build the new attraction.
“It’s a huge job, and everyone has had to work really hard in order to meet the deadline for opening on March 29. I think everyone will feel a huge sense of achievement when the cinema finally opens its doors to the public.”
The cinema is part of a £600,000 investment into the Land’s End facilities, which includes a revamp of the hotel and general maintenance around the site.
Land’s End’s general manager, David Bryans, said:”We are expecting the new cinema to be a very popular attraction. With visitor numbers already increasing year-on-year, we hope that the new attraction will make 2010 our busiest season to date.
“Having planned the new cinema for so long, it’s great that it’s finally coming to fruition. It’s really very exciting, and I can’t wait for the opening launch.”
