Bryn Terfel, a magnetic Sweeney Todd, as he proved at the Royal Festival Hall in 2007 – leads a starry cast, joined by aspiring young musical theatre students and performers supported by the BBC Performing Arts Fund.
On the bill are excerpts from horror-opera Sweeney Todd, the Ingmar Bergman-inspired A Little Night Music and the fairy-tale compendium of Into the Woods, as well as excerpts from Company and Sunday in the Park with George.
This Prom will be the first ever signed Prom. Dr Paul Whittaker, Artistic Director of Music and the Deaf will guide you through the music of Stephen Sondheim.

Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre Manager added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for lovers of Broadway, Opera to join together on the Piazza and enjoy the music of Sondheim on his 80th birthday live from the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
“We’re expecting a large audience for this event, full of people making the most of this rare opportunity to see live performances from some of the biggest stars in opera and theatre – right here in the heart of the city and all completely free of charge.”
Sondheim at 80, live from the BBC Proms, will show on Plymouth’s Big Screen on the Piazza at 7.30pm on Saturday 30th July.
Seating will be available on the Piazza and audience members are encouraged to bring picnics.
