New to the ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ marquee this year, Slow Food UK has created a Taste Adventure to tantalise all the senses, where children will need to see, touch, taste, hear and smell their way to earning a Taste passport!
The celebrity chefs are not just appearing in the Cookery Theatre, as Peter Gorton and Miranda Gardiner both take time out in the Kids’ Kitchen to teach the little cooks a few tricks of the trade along with some child friendly recipes.
Darren McLane and Gabby Jackson from Riverford Organic will be in the Kids’ Kitchen on Friday morning with a feast of fun from the fields. Their workshop entitled ‘When is a vegetable not a vegetable?’ promises a fun and flavoursome outcome to make the taste buds tingle!
Proving there’s more to your five a day than just healthy eating, Tutti Fruitti Bouquets will be holding workshops throughout the weekend showing children how to make flowers out of fruit and Mr Buns will also make appearances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday showing us how to make and decorate delicious cupcakes.
To add to the fun in the Kids’ Kitchen there will be a fabulous face painter and a café run by the Children’s Hospice, so tired mums and dads can take a well earned break!
Amanda Bishop, Events and Marketing Coordinator at Plymouth City Centre Company said “Flavour Fest is an event for the whole family to enjoy. Our dedicated ‘Kids in the Kitchen Marquee’ is a great way to get young people interested in food. With such a great range of activities on offer for little cooks, you can be sure the kids will leave with a real appetite for cooking – although we can’t guarantee they will want to help with the washing up!”
As well as all the action in the Kids in the Kitchen marquee and on stage in the Cookery Theatre, more than 100 traders will be offering tasty treats and delicious delights during the three day event from Friday 13 August through until Sunday 15 August.
Now in its seventh tasty year Flavour Fest has a strong base of traders returning as well as some exciting new traders including Dartmoor Chilli Farm, Bridport Gourmet Pies, Pieminister, the Well Hung Meat Company and the Clovelly Bay Inn at Turnchapel.
The free entry event, which is expected to attract more than 100,000 people over the three days is organised by Plymouth City Centre Company, and once again supported and sponsored by, Castles Kitchens, Lawsons, St Austell Brewery, Westaways Sausages, Wyld Meadow Farm and Gaymer Cider.
A key event in the Plymouth Summer Festival (www.plymouthsummerfestival.com), Flavour Fest 2010 is a highlight of the south west’s food and drink calendar.
