Celebrity chef Ching He Huang to appear at Flavour Fest 2011

26/07/2011

A TV celebrity chef will be sharing the secrets behind her success with a wok when she makes her first appearance at the South West’s biggest food and drink festival.

Star of BBC and Channel 5 cookery programmes, Ching He Huang will be making a guest appearance at next month’s Plymouth Flavour Fest, where she will be demonstrating how to cook delicious and healthy Chinese food.

The young chef set up her own food business at the age of 21. She went on to write several cookery books, launch her own ranges of food, drink and tableware products and appear on several TV channels, including her own TV series, ‘Chinese Food Made Easy’’ on BBC2 and ‘Chinese Food In Minutes’ on Channel 5.

Born in Taiwan to Chinese parents, Ching is completely self-taught. Her culinary influences stem from a childhood spent eating freshly cooked meals using produce grown in the countryside around her grandparents’ farm. This was followed by several years living in South Africa before she moved with her parents to London.

Ching is just one of a wide range of talented chefs from the South West region and beyond giving free demonstrations throughout the day on Saturday, August 20.

Flavour Fest is organised by Plymouth City Centre Company (PCCC). Amanda Bishop, Events and Marketing Coordinator at Plymouth City Centre Company said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ching to this year’s Flavour Fest. Chinese food is so popular and Ching is brilliant at making you feel inspired to try out new ideas. Her recipes are fast, nutritious and really tempting and I’m sure people will love her”.

Flavour Fest runs from 19-21 August and is now in its eighth year, attracting more than 150,000 visitors to the city centre.

Other attractions include a food market with more than 120 food producers and traders from across the region, a Food Is Fun pavilion with activities for children and families and, for the first time this year, the Drinks Revolution marquee, where people can watch cocktail and mixology demonstrations, sample the results and have a go at making their own versions of the classic drinks.

Flavour Fest 2011 is supported and sponsored by Plymouth City Council, Lawsons, Castles Kitchens, Gaymers, Wyld Meadow Farm, Tastebuds Magazine and the BBC.
