Cornwall’s biggest zumba party raises £2,000 charity cash

16/09/2011

Cornwall’s biggest ever zumba party, held at St Austell Brewery earlier this month, has raised more than £2,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

The event, organised by the St Austell Brewery Telephone Sales Department, took place on Saturday 10 September at St Austell Brewery’s old bonded warehouse.

More than 200 zumba fans from across the county took part in the Latin-inspired dance fitness session, hosted by local instructor Becky Hosking.

A raffle was also held on the day which added to the total amount of money raised, with prizes including a night’s bed and breakfast at the Old Custom House, Padstow; a £60 restaurant voucher for Pescadou, Padstow; a £40 voucher for the Galleon, Fowey, free MoT, surf lessons, beauty treatments and tickets for local attractions.

Zoe Keast, one of the organisers of the event and member of St Austell Brewery’s telesales team said: “We were absolutely delighted that so many people turned up to support the event and take part in the zumba class. It was a really fun day and a great energetic workout which everyone enjoyed.

“Supporting the local community is really important to St Austell Brewery, and Children’s Hospice South West is a charity close to the hearts of many people here, so to be able to raise and donate more than £2,000 is a fantastic achievement.”

The St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust has raised a whopping £260,000 since it was started in 2003, with donations going to well-known charities including Children’s Hospice South West, local good causes and individuals who need help.

Money is raised by individual pubs and employees through events such as darts tournaments, sponsored walks and quizzes, plus the annual Celtic Beer Festival in November.
