Launceston pub unveils electronic waiter system

25/07/2011

A Launceston pub has become the first in Cornwall to trial an electronic waiter system hailed as the “ultimate customer service innovation”.

The White Horse, part of St Austell Brewery’s 174-strong estate, has been using Service Please for two weeks and landlady Lucy Collins says it has revolutionised the pub’s service.

Service Please is a wireless call button system placed on each table, allowing customers to order drinks, service or even the bill at the touch of a button.

Lucy said: “We’re already getting some fantastic feedback from our customers. They love the fact they can get service at the touch of a button, with no unwanted interruptions and a relaxed atmosphere.

“For example if a customer is sitting on a table hidden away in a corner, all they need to do is push the button and we’ll be there. It takes away the embarrassment of having to put your hand up to attract a member of staff – it’s a bit like a service call button on airplanes.

“We’re the only pub this side of Bristol to have this system installed. From our point of view it’s helping to improve our efficiency and the experience we can offer our customers. If our customers are happy, then so are we.”

Lucy has made substantial investments in the pub since taking over four months ago. As well as a complete re-branding, with new signage, she has introduced a steakhouse featuring locally-sourced ingredients, a hugely popular Sunday carvery, three real ales on tap and conference facilities.

“The White Horse has a phenomenal amount of potential and my priority is getting the word out there and making people aware that we not just a local pub – we’ve got an awful lot to offer. We are starting to make a real name for ourselves.”
