Legal firm lends support to top food and drink awards event

04/10/2011
One of the Westcountry’s most prestigious food and drink awards events is receiving the support this year of regional legal firm Stephens Scown LLP, it has been announced.

The ‘Champion Product’ title at the 2011 Taste of the West Awards will be supported by the solicitors who have offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell.

Last year the prize went to Witheridge Farm Shop in Devon for their home-cured cooked ox tongue. The accolades were established seventeen years ago and are aimed at highlighting successful and high-quality food and drink businesses across production, hospitality and retail.

The honours, which cover sixteen categories, will be presented at a ceremony in the Mediterranean Biome at the Eden Project in November this year.

Stephens Scown LLP has a dedicated team of lawyers to provide specialist legal advice to the Westcountry’s food and drink industry on a range of business and personal matters.

Simon Gawler, head of Stephens Scown’s food and drink team, said: “The food and drink industry is the lifeblood of the South West economy so it’s really important for us, as a firm, to help promote the region’s producers, suppliers and retailers. These awards show the really high standard and quality of the Westcountry’s products and businesses and naturally we’re proud to be involved.”

John Sheaves, Chief Executive of Taste of the West, commented: “Every year these awards go from strength to strength and we are delighted that Stephens Scown will be supporting the champion product category. It’s a great pleasure working with the food and drink team at Stephens Scown - a successful partnership that has already led to the creation of an iPhone App to promote the Westcountry’s food and drink producers. We are very grateful to the firm for its continued support.”

Earlier this year, Taste of the West teamed up with Stephens Scown to launch the free ‘Foodfinder SW’ iPhone App to showcase more than 600 food and drink producers and retailers across the Westcountry. To date, it has been downloaded over 1,000 times and received ten 5 star ratings in Apple’s online store.
